Our historian couldn't say it any better than a true Saranac Laker can. So please visit their history logs at: http://www.saranaclake.com/historytimeline.shtml. A great read. The heritage continues to this day with their annual Winter Carnival and Ice Palace. Fr current events visit them at: http://www.saranaclake.com. Enjoy your stay! Visit the Robert Louis Stevenson Cottage, where this famous author lived during the winter of 1887-88. Saranac Lake, settled in 1819, was a logging and guide community. In the late 1870's, Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau established Saranac Lake as a health resort. Thousands traveled to this region to "cure" in the mountain air. Saranac Lake still has many 'cure' cottages.
