Bellmont NY in our International border town having its borders with Canada. Bellmont was organized from sections of Chateaugay in 1833 and named after William Bell (a major land owner). History notes that the prior industries were lumbering and iron extractions. Some mine shafts still remain. The Chataguay River flows through Bellmont as well as the Lower Chateaugay Lake at the east town line. Bellmont enjoys Wolf Pond, Ragged Lake, the smaller Indian Lake, Chateaugay Lake and included the hamlets of Bellmont Center, Bryants Mill, Mountain View, and Owls Head.
