The Town of Benson was formed from parts of Hope and Mayfield from Fulton; but now lies in Hamilton County. Sacandaga River defines the southern part of the town. Benson's small community of less than 200 folks enjoys Silver Lake (not to be confused with the northern Silver Lake, Woods Lake, and Devorse Creek. Upper Benson is a hamlet of Benson. Benson is 82.7 sq miles and a population density of 2.1 person per sq mile. Benson is big on space and natural beauty.
